Building a business and client base from scratch can be pretty tough going. However, if you are able to take a step back and look in at it from the outside it's an incredibly interesting process.
One thing that I have learnt is how important it is to build and maintain strong relationships with people. The simple act of meeting up with people over a coffee to chat has resulted in more work and opportunity than you would ever imagine. I try and meet with everyone over a cup of coffee - friends, colleagues, current clients and potential clients. The cafe environment removes the formal (and often intimidating) feeling that can occur when meeting in an office - which in my mind leads to a much better quality of conversation/discussion.
Next time you are thinking about meeting someone, take them out for a coffee. The few dollars you spend will pay itself off over and over and over. Staying in the forefront of your clients or potential clients mind should always be a goal. Regular coffee meetups are an incredibly easy way to do this. The conversation doesn't even have to be about work - you can talk about whatever you want. It all helps.
